The Fourty-Seventh episode of the Great Deep Podcast Series reflects on the life of Barry Meintjies.

Barry died 10 September 2022.
Barry was many things to many people. In the music world he played bass in a number of bands, including the Hairy Legged Lentil Eaters and the Splayed Ferrets, and owned a recording studio in his house. In the latter years of his life after an accident which put him in a wheelchair, Barry reinvented himself as the manager of Marshall Music in the midlands.
He was incredibly gracious and kind to us young whippersnappers, as everyone else who knew him will attest. He had a deep sense of humanity that was not immediately apparent to me but became more obvious over the years. In my own life he was encouraging and insightful, and full of wisdom if you asked the right questions.
These are some of my memories of him, as well as special contributors from the KZN Midlands music scene: Skippy Kubheka, Charles Webster and Martin Godfrey.
