The Great Deep and how it happened

When On The Edge was finished in 2010, it felt like the start of something.

The Ryan Calder Band (RCB) had built a loyal following. The name had found its place on festival lineups, theatre posters, and community events. For me, it was always about people. The kind of people who don’t just make you a better musician, but who inspire you to be a better husband, father, and human being. That was the heartbeat of The Ryan Calder Band.

Not Ironman… RyanMan.

Those who have been following my journey into triathlon would have seen a couple of false starts with races. Such is life in 2022.

I entered Race2Stanford – a triathlon – which looked like such an epic event. Half Ironman distance: 1.9km swim, followed by a 90km bike ride, followed by a 21.1km run between Hermanus and Stanford in the picturesque Western Cape.
