Update on the Great Deep

The past few months will be perhaps the most forgettable and probably the most profound in the lives of the RCB. Here’s why…

Our personal lives have changed, and the music industry has changed. There are more babies on the way. Work has evolved and changed for all of us. Digital media has fast-tracked many users’ ability to consume music, and methods are easier and more commonplace than they were two years ago.

When we started 2013, we set out to write 3 songs each month. That was a way more lofty goal than even I thought. Writing songs has never been a problem for me. Recording, however, has been a slow process.

That said, we have learned a lot along the way.

Studio time with Ryan’s new addition.

1. I can last about five days before coffee won’t supplement sleep.

2. Rudi makes weird noises whenever he goes into a roll.

3. Greg (our producer) is even more of a perfectionist than even he probably thought.

4. Apple updates are imminent. Like yesterday.

5. Berto, Jon and Greg are inherently nocturnal and good for tracking at 2am. We have yet to actually do it though, as the rest of us are normally asleep (me on the fifth day).

But it’s all good. While the recording is still in process, Jon and I take to the road with some new tunes for an east coast tour during September – it’ll be our first time in Port Elizabeth and Plettenburg Bay, as well as some new spots in Cape Town.

And in case you didn’t know, I am streaming my consciousness on a new sub-domain: The Great Deep …which incidentally, is the name of this new project.

Stay tuned, it’s gonna be a fun few months.
